Baptiste and Island Lakes Stewardship Society (BAILS) includes anyone interested in the stewardship of Baptiste and Island Lakes. To maintain a healthy lake and watershed for Baptiste and Island Lakes recognizing the importance of living within the capacity of the natural environment and providing sustainable recreational, residential, agricultural and industrial benefits.

The mission of our stewardship society is to improve the lakes water quality and ensure the watersheds are protected to provide healthy lakes for the continued enjoyment of all people.

Maintaining the health of Alberta's lakes is everyone's responsibility. As Alberta’s population continues to grow, there is increasing human use of the lake watershed, the land that drains into the lake. This, together with climatic variability, means that Albertans must consider new ways to protest our lakes to ensure they stay healthy for years to come.
Whether you live in a lake watershed, right on the shoreline, or just visit for recreational purposes, there are many actions we can take! Here are some examples of what you can do:

Athabasca County’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) provides a wide range of services designed to promote individual, family and community wellness. FCSS is a partnership between Athabasca County, The Town of Athabasca, Village of Boyle, The Government of Alberta and the Summer Villages of Mewatha, West Baptiste, South Baptiste, Sunset Beach, Whispering Hills, Bondiss, and Island Lake South.

Invasive species are plants, animals, or other organisms that are not native to the ecosystem under consideration and whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.
Invasive species out-compete native species for food and space, alter or destroy ecosystems, disrupt food sources, and introduce parasites and disease. They also harm local economies by reducing crop yields and livestock forage production, decreasing property values, interfering with irrigation and water control structures, and discouraging outdoor recreation. Invasive species cost Alberta and Canada billions of dollars a year.
